Leonard King

Past President, Life Member

Leonard King joined the Marlboro VFD in January of 1999, Leonard was a well experienced member of the fire department, already having achieved life membership in the Damascus VFD, an Deale VFD. Leonard was well known for his experience and knowledge of fire department operations and administration. By 2001 Leonard was serving as Vice President of the department, and in 2005 was the President. He continued his service as an administrator for a total of 7 years. Leonard was instrumental in the updating of policies in the fire department, revision of the By-Laws, and improvements throughout the department. He was also instrumental in assisting the department with successfully hosting the Prince Georges County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Convention in Marlboro for the years 2001, 2003 and 2006.

He was always a person the members could count on for answers to difficult questions, and his knowledge of fire department procedures. Among his many accomplishments were his life membership in the Marlboro VFD, Deale VFD, Damascus VFD, 1988 he was inducted into the Maryland State Hall of Fame, 1985 he was President of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association, Vice President of the Marlboro VFD 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, and President 2005 and 2006, and served on numerous committees with the department. This is just a few of his many accomplishments throughout his path as a volunteer. He has always served with dedication, and Pride.

On February 1, 2018 the department was notified of his passing, his loss was felt by the many departments he has been associated with, as well as the county and state Associations. It is because of his dedication that we honor his memory with this dedication.
